The Importance of an Editorial Calendar

Creating a plan for your content is crucial when you have a website or blog. It’s important to create content on a consistent basis so that the search engines send you traffic, but more importantly, so that your audience continues to visit your site and so that your audience numbers continues to grow. After all, visitors make up your business. And if you create valuable content they are looking for, and if that content is useful to them and their needs, then they’ll look at you as a trusted source — an authority and ultimately your content will help to lead them to your products and services.

However, it’s best to plan your content based on the goals you have for your website. You don’t want to post random keyword-stuffed content on your blog hoping that your topic of choice will be a winner with your audience. Of course focusing on search engine optimization and keyword-rich content does play a role, but the main role of your content should be that it fulfills your business goals and the needs of your audience.

Before you begin writing your content, you need to set out a plan of action.

  • What is your business objective and overall goal for your business?

  • And how do you plan to fulfill this goal with your content?

It is crucial that you first know what your business goals are in order to plan your content. After all, you need to know which content topics to begin focusing on — not to mention, choosing SEO keywords for that content.. Remember, researching your keywords for each content piece is extremely important. You need to choose in demand keywords. And as a business owner, you need to focus on choosing keywords with high ROI i.e., long-tail keywords with buyer intent. But we can go into this a bit later.

But keep this in mind …

As you plan your content, narrow your planning to months at a time. (Batching your content, by taking time out to only focus on planning and writing a bunch of content pieces will help you to have something ready in the event that you’re busy or miss a week.)

In any case … Make a plan for each month. Ask yourself …

What is your goal for that month? Then, plan your content marketing accordingly.

Here is what you need to do:

  • Step 1: Start each month by making a list of your goals.

  • Step 2: Choose which goal you plan to focus on each week.

  • Step 3: Then, each week, create a plan of action by listing each task that needs to get done according to your weekly goal (ie., topics, keyword research, choosing in-demand but low competition keywords you want to be known for and rank for, headline selection etc.).

    Remember, this content must also work towards your overall goal for your business.

Be realistic in your planning and don’t overextend yourself beyond what you know you can do for the week. Of course you need to hustle hard, but making realistic plans helps to keep things moving along with less stress, while also ensuring that you continue to move forward in your business..

They’ll be honored that you offered such a kind gesture and it’s likely that they’ll reciprocate the favour without you having to request it! Of course, requesting a recommendation is fine too, but by offering a recommendation for someone else, this simply makes the process easier. Recommendation work well to prove your professional expertise!

Do note that all recommendations do show up on your profile. So, this not only naturally allows others to see these recommendations, but it very organically opens up the door to showcasing who you are and that you’re a trustworthy individual to work with.

By seeing your recommendation on someone else’s profile, this makes others in the network more curious to then visit your profile and/or website to learn more about you. This is a great way to broaden your visibility and open the door to potential opportunities!

This upgrade is clearly something that would move this reader closer to their goal – meaning they’d more likely want to download the accompanying content upgrade because it will help them achieve their desired goal of a flatter stomach.

This incentivized offer allows me to capture their contact information – that being their email address. But better yet, by doing so, it helps me to better understand my readers because now I can email them and get in touch with them with surveys, questions and offers so that I can see how well they respond to them.

By being able to communicate with my audience any day of the week, I now have better control of my blog and my business.

With this new information gathered from my readers, I can now better qualify them for related offers I plan to offer them in the future. This also helps me to see the popularity of my content so that I can better meet their needs. After all, understanding your readers is an essential part of blogging and running a successful business.

The more you offer your readers what they want, the more they will share your message with the world -- meaning less work on your part, while also helping to grow your business.

Overall, it’s a win-win for everyone!

They realize that by using these sites as a growth strategy, it can help them to market their business to their audience. And as a business owner, you too see that there is opportunity for you as well. People love YouTube! Their global reach is immeasurable and it makes sense because seeing is literally believing!

It’s important to note that when people see things visually, it can tug at their emotions, creating greater impact. That is why sites like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, just to name a few, are creating powerful results for many health-related businesses and businesses of other industries who know how to share their messages in a way that resonates with their audience.

To succeed in the business world, you need to showcase valuable information, products and resources that are superior to your competition. But not only that!
