What Is A White Rice Alternative for a Diabetic?

White Rice Alternatives for Diabetics & Prediabetics

Although white rice is high in minerals specifically iron and calcium. Iron plays a role in the promotion of healthy red blood cells. However, many have chosen to avoid white rice - whether for weight loss reasons or for some who feel it lacks much nutritional value.

But here's the truth...

rice-white.jpg

White rice along with being rich in minerals, it is also rich in Vitamin D, niacin, riboflavin and thiamine. To be more specific thiamine and riboflavin help to improve ones metabolism. That makes sense since many Asian countries have made this food a staple in their diet and their population lacks the common obesity issues of many western countries. Of course their are other dietary benefits based on the foods they choose to eat daily in their diet. However, there are many misconceptions associated with this very popular food.

Although rice is known to be high in energy because it is made up of complex carbohydrates that your body takes some time to break down. This is the reason why it gives you an endless supply of energy.

However for diabetics, white rice can be problematic. Since it's rich in carbohydrates this high carb level can raise blood sugar levels. So, if you are a pre-diabetic, take care in limiting your intake of white rice. You should also limit your intake of potatoes which are also high in carbohydrates and can easily elevate blood sugar levels.

Marketing for Health Coaches

Marketing your health coach business always takes time when you're first establishing your practice. But even if you've been in business for some time, it's important to know the best places to market your business.

marketing for health coaches.png

However, it's also equally as important to note that the most successful health coaches focus on one area of expertise -- meaning, they have chosen a particular niche in their industry.

This chosen niche may be to focus on a certain condition like back pain, diabetes or celiac disease. This clear focus allows them to strategically recommend healthy ways to deal with their condition through healthy meal planning and lifestyle changes.

By having an ideal customer in mind, you’re able to more clearly share your message to an audience who will be more receptive to your offerings!

As a health coach or nutrition expert, once you've established your area of expertise or niche as it's most commonly referred to as, this will ensure that you can create the right message for your audience.

You want to know exactly who your audience is even before you begin to market your business. After all, if you don't know who your market is, how can you effectively ensure that your content, communications and content marketing message is speaking to the right people!

Often times, many health coaches are reluctant to choose a particular area of expertise or niche simply because they think they'll be losing out on business if their market is too narrow. They feel that they must appeal to everyone in order to be sure they'll appeal to someone or anyone who may need their expertise. But focusing on such a broad market share is a huge mistake.

The most successful coaches find their ideal clients (and most successful client base), simply due to the fact that they are specifically channeling their area of expertise to one particular niche within their industry.

Having one particular segment of their market in mind means they'll get a better response from their audience.

marketing-for-health-coaches.jpg

By staying laser-focused on a particular market within the health arena, you can more easily gain more clients and customers with your marketing.

For example, a health expert who says their focus is on creating healthy meal plans for the masses is going to have a harder time finding clients than a health expert who makes healthy meal plans for working women with diabetes.

Do you see how specific this market is!

A working career woman with diabetes who sees your blog post or video that's specifically creating meal plans with ingredients specific to her health situation and lifestyle. By encompassing a plan of action that she can easily follow and use to help better control and manage her diabetes, she would most likely contact you over the 'generalist' health coach who tries to appeal to everyone and anyone by just making healthy meal plans for the masses.

This woman sees that you're speaking directly to her, and she feels that instant connection because your message is personally directed at her and her situation.

The generalist coach doesn't intimately know the needs of this woman simply because they're appealing to everyone and their expertise may appear diluted and unappealing to someone like her. However the coach who only addresses the needs of busy corporate female diabetics fully understands her lifestyle needs and how important those needs are to her overall health.

Being this specific can really alter the results you get in your marketing.

When your message has an ideal client in mind, and you tailor your message specifically to them, you can get great results! After that, the key point that health coaches need to know is that you need to then go where your prospective customers are.

Social Media Marketing Made Easy!

Continuing on the chosen niche of diabetes …

If you're a health coach focused on helping those with diabetes, you need to converse in areas where those people congregate.

Think of online nutrition forums dedicated to conversations about diabetes. Where are people asking questions? Answer those questions! Once you do, not only will the poster of that question gain insight, but also every other person who is also reading that post who is seeking information on that topic.

Of course then there are the many social networks and online websites dedicated to the topic of diabetes.

advertising-online-health-coach-marketing.jpg

YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest are just a few of the many platforms available to get the word out about your business. But use these platforms to also inform your target audience.

Observe the response you get from these platforms and tweak your marketing accordingly. But by placing content on various online platforms, you have a greater chance at that ideal client finding you -- and this could mean hundreds or even thousands of dollars to your bottom line.

Just think, if you were never posting content and actively making an effort to be visible online, you would never have a chance at gaining any level of success. And if you look at the most successful health coaches, you actively see them. They do this because they know it works and that's why they have achieved such huge business success. It doesn't mean their offer is necessarily better than yours, they just know that being visible where their target audience is present is necessary for their success!

LinkedIn although a professional platform, LinkedIn can also give you a great deal of exposure regardless of industry.

Linkedin allows its users to create professional profiles so that others in their industry or related industries can easily find and connect with them.

Just think, if there is an organization that holds yearly events, they may seek out an expert focused in the area of diabetes. If you're a Diabetes Health Coach and you have a profile on the LinkedIn website, not only will they see you, but they'll also most likely visit your website to learn more about you. However, if you failed to take the time to create a LinkedIn profile, they may never have found you. And not being able to find you could cost you thousands of dollars in lost revenues!

If you can add informative articles as well to your profile, this elevates your status on the platform since your competition only has a profile and lacks any article content. LinkedIn has grown and given their users so many new features that they can use to share their message. If you can take advantage of all of these features, there is no limit in how many opportunities may come your way!

health-conference-event-meetup.jpg

Podcasts are also another great place to share your message. Yes, I know, it takes time to set up a podcast. But even if you don't not have your own Podcast, why not consider being interviewed on another health related podcast where you know your audience frequents!

Consider the situation above of the working woman with diabetes. Imagine a podcast dedicated to someone like her! Even if the listener of your message does not have diabetes, it's most likely that they may know someone who does. And guess what! If they heard your podcast interview, they'll feel more prone to refer their friend or family member to you because they listened to your podcast interview and saw that you had an extensive amount of knowledge and expertise on the topic.

Get yourself out there and you'll see how many opportunities may come your way with new leads and sales! Remember, referrals are always one of the best ways to get the word out about your business!

Networking events and meetups are also an excellent way to meet people in and around your industry who value your offerings. Although online marketing can reap huge benefits, sometimes good old-fashioned offline marketing and meeting people face-to-face can result in a good amount of new clients. People will always value that face-to-face human connection, so don't overlook it.

Check out websites like Ning.com, Eventbrite.com, Meetup.com and the TedEx extension in your city or town. Look for events specific to your industry in your city where you know people would be more than welcome to hear about your business and value the information you have to share.

Your website Matters! Be sure that your website is clear and states your purpose. Be sure that visitors know what it is you do by being clear on who you serve and the results they can get by working with your and/or buying your products. Also be sure that your site is on an easy to use platform like Wordpress, Square Space or Wix. I’m sure you’ve heard of these website platforms. Wordpress is one that’s been around for a long time. However, some have complained about the number of additional plug-ins needed over time as your business growth and needs improve. However, now website building platforms like Square Space and Wix (along with many others) are giving non-web designers more ease of use and giving them all of the perks without all of the additional plug-ins.

Regardless of what you may choose, be sure you can easily make changes to your website on a whim. The last thing you want is to have to rely on a web designer to make simple changes. You can easily do-it-yourself with platforms like SquareSpace.com and Wix.com. Their support is amazing and always there to help if there is a time you need some extra help. After all, as a health coach you need simplicity and ease. You’re running a health coaching business and you need to provide your visitors with detailed information on a platform that is simple to use. If you have a contest, new launch or last minute offering you want to get out to your audience, being able to alter your website on a whim with ease not only makes running your business that much easier, but it also puts you in the drivers seat — giving you greater control. And that’s worth something!

Capture By Adding More Value

Most importantly, when you provide valuable content and insights on these many social media platforms and websites, be sure that you have created a landing page to capture the information of those who are interested in your offer. Be sure that each of your content pieces has a landing page on your website dedicated to that topic. And offer your visitor some sort of incentive to gain access by allowing them to enter their name and email address so that you can have a way to get in touch with them.

(Note: Although asking for both the name as well as their email address is ideal, studies have shown that you'll get a better response in signups by just asking for their email address alone. My guess is it makes the process quicker for the individual and its less work. People are so busy these days with so many distractions, so the quicker and easier you make it for them the better. Although you won't be able to personalize your message with their name, as long as the content in your emails resonate well with them and you know how to effectively market to them within your message, you'll have no trouble converting them.)

Capturing the email address of your prospects is your first goal once you lead them to your website. Your next goal is to offer them valuable information so that they'll ultimately purchase your product or session.

Remember, you're in business to help them, but you also need to earn a living. The more value you provide them the more eager they'll be to choose you over another health coach in your area. They'll also be more likely to refer you to someone they know that may need your services.

Health Blog Topics for Health Coaches and Wellness Practitioners

health-blog-article-topic-ideas.jpg

As a health and wellness owner, you have heard it time and time again, that consistent content is critical to growing your business. Whether that is creating content for your blog or doing guest posts and sharing your content with your audience through various social media platforms or workshops, content creation is one of the most overlooked areas in many businesses.

It’s not about having the most well-designed business card or having the best business sign. In order to make an impact with your audience, you need to provide informative content that your audience deems valuable. If you can provide a great resource and your audience can gain some benefit from your content, that's the best way to grow their loyalty with you and your business.

For example, suppose that you are speaking at a health and wellness conference to a group of diabetics. If you can share easy and inexpensive meal planning tips and recipes to help these diabetic attendees, this will help them to value your work and influence even more. And couple that with giving away these recipes for free in a booklet or pdf download on your website, you're creating tremendous value while also gaining their trust. Not only can these free information sessions and resources help to improve their life, but you will be that much closer to gaining their business in the future simply because you took the time to provide enormously informative content that can help them.

If you’re not creating valuable content that your audience is searching for and making it readily available through various online (podcasts, blog posts, videos) and offline mediums (like workshops and conferences), then you’re doing a disservice to your audience. After all, they want your help. However, if they don’t know you exist, that doesn’t help them nor does it help you and your business. You're also doing a disservice to yourself and potentially ruining your chances of gaining new clients for your business.

Your website is your real estate. If you're not blogging as well as promoting your website on various platforms where your target audience hangs out, then you're missing out on prospective clients from finding you.

The Coveted Email Opt-in Capture Form

While having a health and wellness business, you need to create engaging and compelling health blog topics on your website. Once you create this content, you can then capture your audience’s personal details by giving them even more value by offering them more assistance in helping them to solve their problem. A great way to do this is with a content upgrade.

>> You can read more about how to create a content upgrade for your business here. <<

But here’s the thing, creating content is not always easy. In addition, coming up with valuable topics that your audience will respond to, takes some brainstorming time. After all, you’re a busy business owner. Adding the task of coming up with topic ideas can be a time consuming task, if not, a draining task simply because you have a ton of things to think about in the every day running of your business. But to make content creation easier for you, I’m going to share a bunch of blog topic ideas that can help you to grow your health and wellness practice. These examples will give you a ton of ideas!

Healthy Bones | Improve Bone Density with Age

Food & Exercise Tips to Build Stronger-bones-muscles.png

4 Ways to Decrease the Risk Bone Loss with Age & What to Do to Assist the Aging Process

As we get older, it's only natural that our bodies deplete in various ways, whether that be having less fullness in our skin, decreased muscle mass or aging bones.

With age especially for women in the first few years of menopause, bone density slowly depletes as we become less active. That is why it's important to take the necessary first steps to decrease the aging process as much as possible. Healthy eating, healthy lifestyle changes and gaining the right amounts of nutrients in our diet along with regular exercise is one of the best ways to do it.

Age is just a number and we can easily improve how we age by making the right choices...

Exercise for Muscles & Bone Health

Here are 3 essential types of exercise that must be added to our daily and weekly routine to strengthen muscles and improve bone mass:

1—Stretching & Flexibility Exercises: This often forgotten exercise routine is critical in building better flexibility and benefits muscle mass. By adding flexibility into your exercise routine, this will help to enhance range of motion.

stretching-exercises-vitamin-d.jpg

Common flexibility and stretching exercises include Tai Chi, Pilates or Yoga. These are excellent if done on a daily basis to decrease the chances of developing osteoporosis. By holding your stretched position for about 30 seconds, this stretched pose helps to lengthen muscles. This helps to improve flexibility and range of motion in the joints.

2— Cardiovascular Exercise: All and any type of exercise like walking, jogging or aerobics helps to create better bones mass by improving bone health. These cardiovascular exercises are weight bearing and place weight on bones and limbs — not to mention how good they are for overall heart health. These types of exercises are highly beneficial to overall fitness especially when aging. However, although many think biking may be a weight bearing exercise, it's not. Biking puts very little weight energy on the overall body and limbs and that's why it's more of a aid in building up the heart, but not necessarily in aiding in bone mass.

Other weight-bearing exercises are running under water or even underwater aerobics. Although having less impact on joints, it is still highly beneficial. For those more sensitive to the impact of exercises like these, but who still want to engage in exercise that builds stronger bones without the risk of injury, it’s a good choice.

3— Strength training: As we get older, it becomes crucial that strength training become a key part of our weekly routine. By engaging in using weights like free weights, stair climbing machines like the stairmaster, incline or elliptical trainer machines. Resistant bands are also excellent in building strength in order to improve bone density.

Exercise should not be the only focus.

Getting enough vitamin D is necessary to maintaining good health. You can get vitamin D from the sun as your body produces this vitamin when exposed to natural sunlight.

salmon-vitamin-d.jpg

Eating a diet rich in vitamin D is also essential for building up your vitamin D levels throughout your body. You can do so by eating foods rich in D vitamins and if need be, add vitamin D supplements (if your diet is lacking in this vitamin).

Foods rich in vitamin D are fatty fish like mackerel, tuna and salmon. 100% natural orange juice, egg yolks and beef liver are also very good choices rich in vitamin D.

Benefits of Vitamin D

Vitamin D aids in the absorption and regulation of phosphorus and calcium within the body. It also helps to resist disease and to maintain a healthy immune system. But most importantly, this vitamin helps to develop healthy bones.

If you value your health and want to decrease you chances of developing osteoporosis, while also wanting to reverse or slow down the risk of decreased bone density while trying to improve your bone density, engaging in these exercises and keeping your Vitamin D levels up is a great way to improve your overall health and fitness. By doing so, you’re building up the necessary defenses your body needs to protect itself, while making better choices for your overall health and well-being.

Mango Kiwi Salad with Dressing

#mangokiwirecipes, #mangokiwisalad, #mangosaladrecipe, #mangosaladdressing, #mangosaladdressingrecipe, #breakfastfruitbowl, #breakfastfruitsalad, #fruitbowl, #mangofruitbowl

Escaping into a bowl of mango kiwi salad can make your day a glorious one! Adding fresh water-rich juicy fruits to your meal selection can make for a nice healthy snack. The sweet and savory dressing of this recipe will have you wanting more!

This lovely and delicious fruit salad is wonderful for all seasons. It's made using a fresh fruit variety tossed with a light honey lemon dressing. Serves up to four people for a nice light snack.

Feel free to increase fruit amount to serve more!

Mango Kiwi Fruit Salad Dessert

Tasty Citrus Delight!

  • 5 Kiwi

  • 2 mangos

  • 10 strawberries

  • 2 oranges

  • 1 Grapefruit

Cut off outer furry skin of kiwi and slice into sections.

Peel mango and cut into blocks.

Wash strawberries and cut down the middle twice - so 4 pieces/strawberry.

Peel oranges and grapefruit and slice into blocks.

If you'd like, add any other fruit choice like blueberries, grapes or watermelon.

(Note: The below spritz is not necessary, but for those wanting an extra bit of zest to their fruit salad, this spritzy citrus flavoring is a nice addition - but not mandatory).

Sweet Spritz for Extra Flavor (Dressing)

  • 3 tablespoons of honey

  • 1 tsp. fresh lime or orange zest

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

Mix all together with fruit

Add fresh mint to garnish

Voila! You're done!

Feel free to add any other fruit you love!

Extra helpful tips…

If you don't finish eating your salad in one sitting, to keep your salad fresh and to maximize its shelf-life, spritz your fruit salad with lemon/lime juice and refrigerate in an air-tight container.

I prefer to eat it that later that day or if not, the next day. For me, I like to eat it within a day or two. However, with the lemon spritz, this does help to maintain its freshness and quality.

Hopefully this list can allow you to find the perfect gift that your loved one will love. When considering the purchase of a beauty product, it’s really just about doing your due-diligence and being well informed on the standards being set. The key is to just be aware and know that not all products may be vegan-friendly and cruelty-free as they say they are on the product labels or in their advertising.

It’s important to follow these tips and guidelines that I’m about to pass onto you to help you when shopping for products. As you know, various “healthy” and “healthier” products and the wording used on labels (terms like “organic”, “vegan”, “clean” and “all-natural”) can be used to fool us that these products are indeed cruelty-free and made of all-natural ingredients, which can sometimes be misleading. There are companies that just want to make a profit without putting the best interests of their customers at heart. This type of behavior of using these types of terms is known as greenwashing.

In the Cambridge dictionary, it states that greenwashing is:

to make people believe that your company is doing more to protect the environment than it really is

These are brands who are trying to be a part of the green movement without actually taking any responsibility with creating positive changes to the environment and for the purpose of protecting their customers. They know it’s wrong, but to them, money talks. And they know that the vegan and cruelty-free movement is getting a lot of attention and they want to be a part of it. However, there is no law that says certain wording cannot be used on packaging if indeed the product is not fully “all-natural”.

Here are some tips for reading the labels on your beauty health products:

  • On packaging try to identify proper industry logos like those of The Vegan Society or Cruelty Free International’s Leaping Bunny.

  • When you look at the product listings you should not see ingredients like artificial coloring, petroleum, parabens, phthalates, sulphates, synthetic fragrances or silicones.

Of course there are more harmful ingredients, but these are the most common one’s you will see. I’m sure you’re familiar with seeing most of them on many popular beauty products from your local drugstore. But if you go onto the website of either of the organizations I’ve just mentioned, you should be able to see the ingredients you should stay away from on product labels.

Cruelty Free Product Shopping Apps

Many apps now exist to help you purchase healthier beauty products. Apps like Cruelty-Cutter (by The Beagle Freedom Project), Bunny Free (by Peta), Cruelty-Free (by Leaping Bunny) and the Think Dirty app can save the day when shopping for products that aren’t tested on animals with ingredients that lack the toxins of most common store brands.

Most of these apps allow you to quickly scan the labels for harmful ingredients. And they’ll rate how bad or good the product is in terms of how natural or clean they are.

When it comes to choosing your skincare products, it’s best to try to only purchase products free of toxins. After all, it’s these toxins that over time can cause damage.
